10,000 Saplings Planted on World Environment Day

Volunteers, students and local residents came together this World Environment Day to plant more than 10,000 saplings as part of Need Foundation's Green India Drive.

The plantation sites were chosen with local panchayats to target degraded common land and school premises, where saplings can be watched over by students as part of their own environment lessons.

Each plantation site was paired with a short awareness session on waste segregation and water conservation, run by our environment team, so the day left behind more than just trees.

Volunteers have committed to a year-long maintenance schedule, checking on the saplings through the monsoon and the dry months that follow, since a planted tree only counts once it survives its first year.

Need Foundation thanks every volunteer, school and local partner who dug in — literally — to make this year's drive our largest yet.
